What is a Pergola?
A pergola is an outdoor structure that consists of posts supporting a latticework of slats parallel to the ground. It is most commonly used as a garden feature forming a shaded walkway, passageway, or sitting area of vertical posts or pillars that usually support cross-beams and a sturdy open lattice, often upon which woody vines are trained. Pergolas may link pavilions or extend from a building’s door to an open garden feature such as an isolated terrace or pool. Why Build a Pergola?
There are many reasons why you might want to build a pergola. Building a pergola can provide shade, enhance the visual appeal of your outdoor space, create a definite space, and extend your living area. A pergola can also act as an extension of a building by covering an open area, such as a terrace. At Capital Outdoor Spaces we design and hand craft your pergola to fit your vision and outdoor space.
There are typically two main reasons to build a pergola: function and aesthetics. The functionality is providing a shade structure and area for seating that gets you out of the sun. The aesthetics can enhance an ambiance and create a sense of intimacy. There are options to cover your new pergola to help protect you from the elements, just ask us.
